Landholder Proposition

Citola finances the establishment and management of the project and agrees with the landholder the responsibilities of both parties and any remuneration according to the project size and specific requirements on the project site. When a property and planting site is selected, Citola will pay all costs for the project establishment and management: The Landholder has no costs for the establishment and management of the project.

Over and above the Benefits for the Landholder (environmental, aesthetic and agronomic benefits) of the project, the landholder is compensated through:

  1. Capital improvement to property through forestry ecosystem establishment (Citola pays all costs, landholder has no costs);
  2. Financial remuneration in-line with the responsibilities of both parties according to the project size and specific requirements of the project site.

All sites are selected based on a Citola developed selection criteria.

Landholder Agreement

Should a property be suitable and meet all criteria, Citola will seek to formalise an agreement with the Landholder and incorporate the property into the carbon forestry program. The agreement involves the landholder entering into a carbon sequestration agreement with Citola where the roles and responsibilities of both parties are agreed. The agreement obliges the landholder to not engage in or permit any act, matter or thing on the project site which will cause or result in or might threaten the viability of the project, trees and forest.

 An overview of the Carbon Sequestration Agreement includes:

  1. The landholder still retains title and ownership of the land;
  2. Citola will pay for all establishment, ongoing management and verification costs in relation to the planting, as well as costs associated with mapping and planting design;
  3. Current or future owners cannot remove or harvest the trees for the duration of the Carbon Sequestration Right Term (usually in excess of 100 years);
  4. The landholder is free to use the land as they please within the boundaries of the agreement (grazing can be possible after 3 years post-establishment);
  5. All the benefits of the carbon stored in the trees (the Carbon Rights) are vested in Citola;
  6. At the end of the agreed term, the Carbon Sequestration Right expires;
