Carbon Farming Initiative
The Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) is legislation that enables tradeable carbon offsets to be generated from forestry projects and Australian land-based actions developed according to approved methodologies that reduce or store carbon dioxide. Carbon offsets developed according to approved methodologies by recognised forestry entities are eligible in domestic and international compliance and voluntary carbon markets. The Carbon Farming Initiative and the production of carbon offsets represent a market-based mechanism to incentivise sustainable farming and land management practices as part of Australia’s transition to a ‘Clean Energy Future’.
The benefits for Australian landholders, rural communities and corporate organisations from the Carbon Farming Initiative and subsequent carbon price legislation is the market incentive to integrate reforestation (forestry) and sustainable land-use practise as part of a holistic land management strategy. A properly designed, implemented and managed project can maintain or increase farming yields while creating other positive environmental, climate (carbon sequestration) and biodiversity benefits.
As part of the Carbon Farming Initiative, Citola works with landowner's and rural communities through a consultative process where project objectives are achieved through (1) community/stakeholder consultation and education, (2) operational implementation of project activities and (3) transparent communication of project outcomes.
Specifically, the Citola reforestation program involves the planting of a forestry ecosystem for the predominant purpose of carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation and positive land-use change. The program is designed according to the strictest assessment guidelines to test additionality, leakage and permanence and satisfy the additionality test under the Kyoto protocol.

Citola provides client access to a long-term, fixed price provision of carbon offsets (Australian Carbon Credit Units - ACCUs) eligible in the Australian Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) and subsequent carbon price legislation.
Citola manages the entire carbon offset origination, management and delivery process and works with clients to understand their specific requirements, timelines and governance objectives in-order to provide carbon products with an appropriate fee/investment structure.
