Benefits for the Landholder
Trees integrated onto a property in conjunction with sustainable farming systems can provide a range of significant positive environmental, financial, biodiversity and agronomic benefits. For landholders, Citola carbon projects can generate new and diversified income from underutilised or marginal land. Planting areas can include property and creek boundaries, hilly terrain and areas not suitable for crops or livestock. Landowners can see other tangible benefits that contribute to increased land productivity and yield through:
- Land and Habitat Regeneration;
- Diversified farm income;
- Improved Water Quality through mitigation of salinity and soil erosion;
- Improvement of soil structure and reduction in water logging;
- Enhance the microclimate by reducing wind speed and increasing soil moisture retention; and
- Stock and Crop Windbreaks.

Submit Expression of Interest
Landholders can register an Expression of Interest (EOI) by completing the EOI form and returning it to projects [at] citola.com. The EOI form provides to Citola the information required to assess the suitability of the property.
Land (Farm) Productivity
Forestry ecosystems can make significant contributions to the productivity and yields of crops, pastures and livestock.
Strategic forestry plantings can:
- Reduce physical damage to crops and pasture by reducing the impact of strong dry winds;
- Contribute to potential yield increases by influencing temperature, humidity, evaporation and soil moisture conservation;
- Contribute to improving soil quality by limiting the loss of valuable top soil to wind and water erosion;
- Tree belts are a key component in the mitigation and reduction of dryland salinity at the local paddock and property scale but also at the catchment and broader landscape scale. This in turn has the potential to enhance water quality and minimise runoff; and
- Tree belts can also provide shelter for grazing stock during extremes of heat and cold and significantly contribute to maintain stock condition.

Financial benefits
Over and above the environmental, aesthetic and agronomic benefits of the project, the landholder is compensated through:
- Capital improvement to property through forestry ecosystem establishment (Citola pays all costs, landholder has no costs);
- Financial remuneration in-line with the responsibilities of both parties according to the project size and specific requirements of the project site.
The landholder can see a direct financial injection into their property. All costs associated with the project including surveys, site preparation, planting, seeds and seedlings, weed and pest management, cultivation and monitoring costs are all met by Citola.

Environmental and Community Benefits
In addition to the land (farm) benefits, the environmental benefits include enhancing the native biodiversity and wildlife habitats in the local and broader region.
Projects also provide employment opportunities in local communities through local service providers assisting in the project establishment and ongoing management.
