Landholders

Citola is in the business of originating and managing forestry ecosystem assets for, among other things, the purposes of carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. As part of our program, we work with government, communities and private landowners in the reforestation (revegetaion) and conservation of their properties and forestry ecosystem resources.

Trees integrated into a property in-conjunction with farming systems or other land-use practices can provide a range of positive environmental, financial, biodiversity and agronomic benefits for landholders. Planting areas can include property and creek boundaries, hilly terrain and areas not suitable for crops or livestock resulting in the improvement of property and the potential to generate new and diversified revenue streams from underutilised or marginal land. Landholders can see other tangible benefits that contribute to increased land productivity and yield through:

  • Land and habitat regeneration;
  • Improved water quality;
  • Reduced soil erosion and salinity; and
  • Stock and crop windbreaks.

Landowners: How it Works

Citola works with landholders and rural communities through a consultative process where project objectives are achieved through (1) stakeholder consultation, (2) operational implementation of project activities and (3) transparent communication of project outcomes.

Should a property be suitable and meet all criteria, Citola will seek to formalise an agreement with the Landholder and incorporate the property into the carbon forestry program.

Citola finances the establishment and management of the project and agrees with the landholder the responsibilities of both parties and any remuneration according to the project size and specific requirements on the project site. When a property and planting site is selected, Citola will pay all costs for the project establishment and management: The Landholder has no costs for the establishment and management of the project.

Submit Expression of Interest

Landholders can register an Expression of Interest (EOI) by completing the EOI form and returning it to projects [at] citola.com. The EOI form provides to Citola the information required to assess the suitability of the property.

Project Types

Citola develops Reforestation (revegetation conservation), Improved Forestry Management, Avoided Deforestation and Sustainable Forestry Projects as part of the Carbon Farming Initiative and National Carbon Offset Standard.

  • Reforestation: Long-term revegetation (forestry) planting for the predominant purpose of carbon sequestration
  • Improved Forestry Management: Conservation and enhancement of existing forests and ecosystems through management and replanting actions (conversion of low-productive forest to high-productive forest)
  • Sustainable Forestry: Sustainable harvest in-parallel to environmental (carbon) outcomes from permanent forest
  • Avoided Deforestation: Conservation of forest through enforced protection. Carbon offsets and ecosystem services generated through avoiding deforestation.

Property and Land Suitability

Citola seeks properties and sites to develop new carbon forestry projects where properties are selected primarily for their native timber qualities and, by default, exceptional carbon sequestration potential. Suitable properties include those that have sites that include:

  • Property and creek boundaries, hilly terrain and areas not suitable for crops or livestock;
  • Farming, grazing or cleared land;
  • Farm forests, existing plantings or forestry projects; and
  • Plantation forests, rainforests and ecosystems.

Landholders can register an Expression of Interest (EOI) by completing the EOI form and returning it to projects [at] citola.com. The EOI form provides to Citola the information required to assess the suitability of the property.

Landholder Proposition

Landholders can see a range of positive environmental, financial, biodiversity and agronomic benefits. Over and above these, the landholder is compensated through:

  1. Capital improvement to property through forestry ecosystem establishment (Citola pays all costs, landholder has no costs);
  2. Financial remuneration in-line with the responsibilities of both parties according to the project size and specific requirements of the project site.
