Sustainable Forestry
Sustainable forestry projects create carbon sinks in parallel to timber operations in new and existing forests with the aim to maintain the cultivation of ecosystems while ensuring they remain productive.
Sustainable Forestry projects are structured so that the forestry management is financed by the sale of carbon offsets with the aim to achievie greater growth and a more sustainable timber program. Productivity is measured by considering all forest resources including tangible assets such as foods, seeds and timber and the intangible assets that include the transfer of energy and nutrients.
Traditional plantations are measured by their raw productivity (biomass/timber yield) and this tends to lower the total environmental productivity of the forest and quality of the eco-system. Over the long-term, sustainable forestry will have increased financial returns through creating more productive and sustainable forest ecosystems, an increased quality of timber product and continue to act as carbon sinks.
