About the EU ETS

The European Union Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading System (EU ETS) is the largest multi-country, multi-sector Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading System  in the world.  The EU ETS currently covers more than 10,000 installations across EU member states that are collectively responsible for nearly a half of the EU’s carbon emissions.

The EU ETS has traditionally relied on ‘technology’ projects (renewable energy) to deliver emission reductions and carbon offsets, however, the introduction of  forest carbon is being discussed as one of the only mechanisms able to meet the growing global demand.
