State of the Union and Climate Policy

US President Barak Obama delivered the State of the Union address yesterday (28/01/2010) where he indicated the need to focus on growing the American economy and creating more job opportunities.

President Obama addressed climate change directly when many expected him to wrap climate policy within energy and employment policy:

“I know there have been questions about whether we can afford such changes in a tough economy. I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change. But here's the thing — even if you doubt the evidence, providing incentives for energy-efficiency and clean energy are the right thing to do for our futurebecause the nation that leads the clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy. And America must be that nation.” - US President Barak Obama, State of the Union (28/01/2010)
