Seedling Growth and Sun Hardening [video]
Citola has highly developed seedling propagation and selection criteria. As soon as seedlings are large enough to handle or cuttings have developed a sufficient root system, they are transferred to pots where they have enough space to grow. As an intermediate stage before transferring to individual pots, seedlings maybe “pricking out” which is the process of moving seedlings after germination from seed trays into individual pots or open ground. Great care must be taken at this stage because any damage to the root system can result in death or permanent damage of the seedling. Seedlings are then “sun hardened” to improve the robustness and resilience in preparation for planting.
Below is a short video of seedlings from a Citola nursery.
