69 percent of US Companies have Corporate Green Programs (up 54 percent in 2010)

69% of US businesses have corporate green programs with the number of green programs increasing 54% in 2010 according to new research from Buck Consultants.

American businesses are increasingly measuring the savings able to be achieved from green programs and factoring environmental initiatives into commercial and economic assessments.  More than 50% of the companies surveyed used renewable energy in their corporate offices in 2010 with 25% powered by solar, 15% by wind, 12% by geothermal, 12% by hydropower, 11% by biomass and 11% by “other” undefined sources of renewable energy.

“Nearly six in 10 respondents indicate the recession had no impact on their green workplace initiatives while 19% actually expanded green programs during the economic downturn,” said Allison Artnak, director at Buck Consultants. “We attribute this to the belief that going green can be good for business and for the bottom line.”
